Supervision

Joy provides supervision services to other social workers or professionals that work in human services.

Joy is an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker and Somatic Experiencing Practitioner. She is warm and compassionate and aims to create a safe space for every supervisee. In supervision sessions, she aims to build a therapeutic alliance which can support the creation of a safe space to reflect and be open.  She is passionate about vicarious trauma, compassion fatigue and burn-out and how the professional and personal can interact.

Joy has over fifteen years’ experience as a social worker. She has worked in the homelessness and mental health sectors and with clients involved in the criminal justice system. The last nine years Joy has been employed in a forensic setting providing risk assessment and individual and group-based intervention to people with a disability, people who have been convicted of a sexual, violent or extremist offending. Recently Joy has been employed as a Senior Clinician delivering individual interventions focused on a person’s mental health to those who are high profile or major offenders. She is now focused on working with families of offenders and growing her private practice.

Joy takes an attachment lens to formulation and working with clients. She is experienced in using a range of treatment modalities including CBT, DBT, ACT, Schema therapy, Strengths-based approaches, Solution focused approaches, IFS and Somatic Experiencing. Joy has experience in a range of settings including custodial, inpatient and outpatient, supported accommodation, community settings, NGO’s, the government sector and has provided direct practice as well as supervising and managing other staff and providing group reflective practice.

Joy is passionate about applying trauma informed principles to the work she does and has a special interest in attachment, relational and developmental trauma.
