Joy is a warm and compassionate therapist. She is a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner (SEP) and a Accredited Mental Health Social Worker (AMHSW). She works from a relational framework, with the therapeutic relationship being integral to feeling safe and allowing us to do deeper reflection and healing. Joy aims to create a safe space in therapy for reflection and processing. Joy is passionate about the way in which our experiences shape who we are, with therapy being a space to explore these experiences.
With over fifteen years’ experience as a social worker, working with a range of clients and in a range of settings she is experienced with the most complex presentations. She has worked in the homelessness, mental health and criminal justice sectors in outreach, case management and therapeutic interventions.
Joy is passionate about applying trauma informed principles to the work she does and has a special interest in attachment, relational and developmental trauma. Joy works in an integrative way drawing on interventions she is passionate about from a somatic perspective. Joy has completed a three-year training in Somatic Experiencing and is an IFS/Parts informed therapist.
When Joy is not working as a therapist she enjoys pottering in the garden, getting out in nature, reading and any creative pursuits (the most recent is knitting).
